Moon Phases
The moon phases are the ever changing views of the sunlit part of the moon. These are divided into two sections, the major phases (the new moon, the first quarter, the full moon and the last quarter) and the minor phases (the waxing crescent, the waxing gibbous, the waning crescent and the waning gibbous).
The Major Phases
New Moon – New Beginnings
The new moon brings renewal and regeneration. This is a time for new beginnings, reseting and letting go. It is a time for planting seeds of intentions, gathering your thoughts and plans and being clear when setting yours. Acknowledge both the dark and the light. New moons are for new endeavours, new relationships, so be optimistic and be prepared for the positive changes ahead.
First Quarter – Take Action
During the first quarter, plant seeds and set intentions. In this time keep moving forward and begin putting your plans into action. This period symbolises strength, determination and concentration.
Full Moon – Harvest Endeavours
Full moons are strongly linked to relationships, love, romance and passion. This is a traditional time for social gatherings, festivals and rituals. Stay balanced, heart centred and grounded. Full moons are good for harvesting, spell work, protection and achieving all dreams. Push forward intentions made during the new moon and amplify your energy to fulfil wishes.
Last Quarter – Release and Let Go
Recuperate and rest. It is okay to feel empty sometimes. Celebrate what has changed since the First Quarter.
The Minor Phases
Waxing Crescent – Set Intentions
Dream and explore your new potential and be open to inspiration and ideas. Communicate any plan of action or idea that came to you and ways that you can begin taking inspirit action. This time is for growth, learning, accomplishments, creativity, healing and positive transformation.
Waxing Gibbous – Refine and Sharpen
It is time to nurture and support whatever we want to create or change. This time represents the cultivation of your intentions. Prepare for manifestation through continued action, creativity and commitment.
Waning Gibbous – Introspect
A time ideal to tie up loose ends of projects. Release what does not serve you, absorb revelations brought forward during the full moon and practice gratitude.
Waning Crescent – Surrender
The final releasing and purging stage. Rest, reflect, contemplate and solidify your transformation. Prepare new seeds to be planted. This is time to assess what is essential, what needs to be kept and treasured and what needs to be released.
